Putting Kids First

 

     Winston-Dillard School District is one of 13 districts in Douglas County. The District serves almost 1,700 students in grades K-12, with a forward-looking, comprehensive 21st Century curriculum.

    Instruction is delivered in three elementary K-5 Schools: Brockway, Lookingglass, and McGovern; Winston Middle School grades 6-8; and Douglas High School grades 9-12

    The District also offers an alternative program for students whose learning styles and interests are best served outside the traditional classroom setting. In addition, the Education Service District provides educational opportunities for students in grades 7-12 at Riverside Center, a day treatment facility for students residing in Douglas County.

    The District provides a comprehensive competitive athletic program, Special Olympics, extracurricular activities in future Farmers of America, Future Business Leaders of America, National Honor Society, National Junior Honor Society, Future Family and Community leaders, music, drama, and art.

    Douglas High School Special Education and Youth to Work Transition programs work closely with the Wildlife Safari in a unique partnership. the Wildlife Safari, a year-round drive through animal park with restaurant, theater, landscape grounds, zoo and animal care facilities, provides students with unique and varied training and work opportunities from arborists to zoologists. In return for the student training opportunities, the safari receives volunteer labor and trained seasonal workers.

One of the premier fishing and rafting streams in the world, the Umpqua River, flows through Winston--Dillard. The surrounding woods abound with deer, elk, fox, wild turkey, pheasant, and quail.   

    Culture abounds

    Winston-Dillard hosts "Fine Arts in the Park," featuring a variety of artists with food, music, and entertainment.

Riverbend Live! is four days of free music entertainment held at the City Park's outdoor theater. Winston is known for its Melon Festival, held in late summer with three days of melon tasting, arts and crafts vendors, entertainment, and food.

Nearby Roseburg hosts the Roseburg Arts Festival which brings artists from all over the West Coast for three days of art, music, and food. The Roseburg Community Concert Association and the Umpqua Symphony Association brings internationally known entertainment area.

 Local grants provide six free popular music concerts each summer in nearby Stewart Park featuring well known artists.

we are just a little over an hour from the majestic Oregon Coast, less than three hours from Willamette Ski Bowl, about two hours from Ashland, Oregon's Shakespearean Festival. Diamond Lake is just 92 miles away and it's just 20 miles further to famous Crater Lake National Park.  Travel 68 miles north to Eugene, Oregon and find additional culture and shopping.
